Terms of Service
Effective May 22, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Dtecto iOS application and the dtecto.app website (collectively, the "Service") provided by Dtecto ("we", "us"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian's permission. Dtecto is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly serve them.
2. Account
Dtecto accounts are created via Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID and for all activity on your Dtecto account. Notify us promptly at support@dtecto.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Subscription, Trial, and Billing
- Dtecto is offered as an auto-renewable subscription with a 14-day free trial available to new subscribers.
- After the trial, the subscription auto-renews at $9.99/month or $79.99/year (prices may vary by region) unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- Subscriptions are billed by Apple through your Apple ID. Manage, pause, or cancel any time at iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Dtecto.
- Refunds, when issued, are handled by Apple under their refund policy. We are not able to issue refunds directly for purchases billed by Apple.
- If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be billed.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Post or share content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or that incites violence.
- Dox, stalk, or otherwise reveal another person's private information without consent.
- Promote, facilitate, or solicit metal detecting on federally-protected lands (including but not limited to lands covered by the Archaeological Resources Protection Act and the National Historic Preservation Act in the United States), privately-owned land you do not have permission to detect on, or any other location where detecting is prohibited by law.
- Misrepresent the origin, authenticity, or legality of any find.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service except where permitted by law.
- Use the Service to send spam, scrape data, or interfere with normal operation.
- Violate any applicable law in your use of the Service.
We may remove content, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice. Repeat violations result in permanent ban.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you post (photos, notes, comments, etc.). By posting content to the Service you grant Dtecto a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and process that content as necessary to operate the Service, including showing your public finds and community posts to other users.
This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except that we may retain copies as necessary for backup, compliance, or legitimate operational purposes for a reasonable period.
6. Reporting and Moderation
Every public find, post, comment, and profile has a report flow. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours of receipt. Content that violates these Terms is removed and the responsible account may be suspended or banned. You may also block individual users from interacting with you or seeing your content via the block flow on any profile.
7. AI Find Identification
Dtecto uses AI to identify finds from photos you submit. The AI responses are best-effort and not authoritative. Do not rely on Dtecto for valuation, authentication, or legal classification of finds. For valuable or historically significant items, consult a qualified professional appraiser, numismatist, or archaeologist.
8. Termination
You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. Doing so cancels access to the Service and removes your associated data within 30 days. We may terminate or suspend access for violation of these Terms.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI identifications will be accurate.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dtecto and its founders, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing, whichever is greater.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dtecto from any claim arising out of your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or content you post.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Collin County, Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be surfaced in-app or via email where appropriate. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
